Evolution Time Critical Delivers the Way Forward

October 2008

With businesses across the UK looking for ways to buck the downward trend of the economy, Evolution Time Critical has clearly found the formula for success.

The Derby-based business, which is advised by Sutton Coldfield-based accountants and business advisers Weatherer Bailey Bragg, has gone from strength to strength since managing director Brad Brennan and three colleagues launched the company in 2001, after the freight forwarding firm they worked for was bought out.

Evolution Time Critical (ETC) has found its market in freight forwarding for the automotive industry, where a “lean” production philosophy may mean leading manufacturers hold only enough stock to supply production lines for a few hours.

With a hold-up in production costing up to €1 million an hour, ETC’s rapid response and emergency logistics have led to the company becoming the market leader in its field and a turnover of more than £15 million a year.

A key part of ETC’s service is its understanding of exactly what the industry needs, backed up with an ethos of always being willing to go the extra mile for clients. Brad says: “What matters is that you deliver what you promise, no matter what it takes. “

That includes collecting from anywhere in the world within an hour of the call, which means that ETC draws on local partners everywhere they might need one. The company also manages delivery modes including human couriers, rapid road transport, helicopters and chartered and scheduled aircraft.

The company has also invested substantially in IT to keep track of shipments and feed back to clients 24/7 every time a key milestone is reached. Investment in staff is also crucial to maintaining ETC’s high quality service.

Brad says he had no idea that the ETC would achieve the success it has but that delivering “that little bit extra” had been crucial from the start. He says: “We wanted to form a logistics company that offered this kind of proposition.”

ETC has been working with Weatherer Bailey Bragg since the start of the year following a “beauty parade” of potential advisers.

The accountancy and advisory firm now provides services including strategic growth advice, finance raising, advice on shareholder value as well as more general commercial advice to ETC. Richard Miner, partner at Weatherer Bailey Bragg, says: “The ETC success story really emphasises what can be achieved by a business that identifies and develops a niche in the market and that appreciates the value of high quality service to its customers.

“That approach is reinforced by a willingness to make the necessary investment, so that every member of staff can do their job properly, and a willingness to work with professional advisers in growing and moving the business forward.”
